How to Use the Ron Paul Canvasssing DVD - Strategy and Scritps

Using The Ron Paul Reveres Canvassing DVD

to make your canvassing activities both easier and more effective.

Let's face it. While canvassing is necessary, it isn't necessarily fun or comfortable for the "canvasser" or the "canvassee." The Ron Paul Reveres Canvassing DVD solves the 3 major challenges we hear most often from people canvassing:
1) People don't want to talk with strangers about politics;
2) There isn't time to systematically raise the important issues;
3) I am not a salesperson and am not comfortable trying to "persuade" someone.
With the DVD, instead of trying to engage the person you are canvassing in a "conversation" that somehow converts them into a Ron Paul supporter, you can concentrate on achieving a single objective - getting them to agree to watch the 10-minute introduction on the DVD. This more manageable goal allows you to both be more effective AND talk to more people. In the process, it accomplishes 3 major objectives:
1) You make the visit as short and sweet as they want it to be. Instead of trying to engage them in a conversation they don't want to have, you give them a graceful "out" by agreeing to watch the DVD. Now, when they watch the DVD, they will be in the comfort of their own living room, rather than the discomfort of standing at their front door.
2) You get them to spend 10 minutes watching a thorough introduction to Ron Paul that addresses all of the major issues of the campaign, but only spend 1 minute talking to them. This frees you to talk to more people. Further, many people will spend an hour or more learning about Ron Paul's philosophy of freedom and his positions on the issues.
3) You provide them with a professional and persuasive video that A) lets them see and hear Ron Paul himself, as he shares his views on the critical issues of the campaign, B) helps them recognize Ron Paul's sincerity and dedication to our most sacred American Values, and C) encourages them to become part of the the grass-roots support that his principled stance has inspired.

A Potential Script For Handing Out The DVD

Try this script and expand it to fit your personality. Remember, make it easy on yourself and the other person. The key to this process is to get them to look you in the eye and say they will watch the 10 minute introduction on the DVD. If you ask them to watch it and they agree, their conscience in on our side, and the DVD can do it's job.

Again, don't try to force a conversation! If they want to talk, share your heart with them. If they don't want to, honor that! Concentrate instead on getting them to agree to watch the DVD and move on to the next house!

Ringing the door bell.

Resident: Who's there?

Me: Hello, Mrs. Smith? (You can guess at the person's name from the voter registration.)

Smith: Yes.

Me: Hi. I'm a neighbor of yours. My name is [Your Name]. (Shake hands if she's in reaching distance.) Have you heard of Ron Paul?

Smith: No.

Me: He's running for president (If they answer "yes", skip this first sentence). We are asking people to spend 10 minutes watching a video about the principles that he stands for. If I were to give you this DVD (hold up the DVD for them to see), would you be open to investing 10 minutes to discover whether or not Ron Paul is someone worth listening to?

Smith: Ok. (if they say "No," either graciously thank them for their time and leave, or goto the option below this section on dealing with objections)

Me: Thank you. (Hand them the DVD as you continue...) We really appreciate it. Ron Paul is truly different than the other candidates, and know that you will experience that when you watch the video. So thanks for taking the time to learn about him.

Me: Also, here 's my card with some Ron Paul websites and my phone #. (or whatever other flyers or information you have) Please don't hesitate to call should you wish to discuss this further. Do you have any questions I can answer now?

If she seems interested in talking further:
Me: What presidential issue is most important to you? I can tell you a little about Ron Paul's position.
