The last time you were in the market to buy flowers, you likely weren't aware that you could purchase something more permanent, say flowers, that can last forever. Roses in particular, are overwhelming popular and as is the case, anyone would be thrilled to have have these treasured flowers as long as possible. Unless you happen to be a shopping connoisseur of different or unusual gifts, you may not be aware that rose flowers can be purchased in a variety of metals including gold and silver.

When it comes to buying a silver or gold rose, you may be a little confused as to which road to take. Silver is a popular choice simply because it's more affordable than gold. A silver rose is just as lovely a gift as a gold one, but it won't break the bank and will likely allow you the opportunity to buy more than one at a time. A rose made of gold could cost twice as much as a silver rose, thus it pays to look at the differences in cost when making a decision. In addition, a silver rose versus a gold one is nothing if not trendy while gold can be be seen as flamboyant and flashy.

Roses signify many things, particularly when it comes to their varied colors. The most common of these amongst the 30,000 varieties of roses is the color red which represents love and romance; red roses has always been known as the way to say "I love you." With a silver rose, the same sentiments may apply as one doesn't need a particular color to express a deep and meaningful sentiment.

Silver roses are made from the real thing and come in both short or long stems. While the stems are adorned with sterling leaves, the thorns are not a worry like on the real flower.

Roses comes from a very long and interesting history. In Greek mythology, the rose is part of several stories. It is believed that the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite, created the rose which was shed from both her tears and the blood of of Adonis, her lover. The Romans also adopted the rose after turning Aphrodite into their Goddess Venus – it symbolized love and beauty for them. The rose was then offered as bribe by Cupid to the God of Silence so as to try and cover up Venus' many love affairs. Consequently, the rose then became a symbol of secrecy and was used to adorn the ceilings of roman dining rooms as a reminder to guests to keep secret all that had been discussed during dinner. To this day, sub rosa (or under the rose) means confidentiality.

Thankfully, roses today don't hold that stigma of secrecy as they once did. Any rose, including a silver one, is a treasured keepsake and is meant to be be on display for all the world to see and admire.
