Why Unisex Clothes Never Took Off
Back in the seventies or eighties, clothing manufacturers started pushing 'unisex' clothes. It caught on for a little while, but it didn't last. Instead, women started wearing men's clothes and accessories, while men just stuck with men's.
Some good things have come out of that era. Men are no longer limited to short hair and they don't have to all wear the same suit to the office. Men even wear jewelry today, including necklaces and earrings. Their choice of jewelry is limited, though. A man wouldn't be caught dead in a sexy pair of women's rhodium earrings. Men usually stick to just one stud earring.
Women, on the other hand can wear whatever jewelry they want to wear. A bulky men's watch can look terrific on a woman's wrist, but have you ever seen a man wear a bejewelled woman's watch to work?
Men today can wear earrings, necklaces and bracelets. What they can't wear, though, is a jewelry set. If a man is wearing earrings, they should either look like pirate's earrings or something his girlfriend picked out for him. If he's wearing a necklace, it should be something he found when he was traveling or have religious or other significance for him. It should never be part of a set just because it matches. Only women can wear jewelry sets simply because they match.
These principles apply to every department of men's and women's fashion. Men's things can have a way of enhancing a woman's sexuality. Women's things feminize men. If that's what he wants, that's his choice, but if he's looking for men's clothes for straight men, he's not going to find them in the women's section of a clothing store.
Have you ever seen a woman in a man's sweatshirt. The effect can make you weak in the knees, almost as if she was wearing a bikini. Now try to make yourself think about girls sweatshirts on men. You can't do it, can you? It's just ridiculous.
Blue jeans were originally designed for working men, but when women started wearing them, they took off like a rocket because they looked fantastic in them. Sure, they look even better if they are tailored for girls, but they still look great. Nobody could tailor a skirt or a dress for a man that would sell, though. It just wouldn't work.
Why men's clothes work on women but women's don't work on men may never be answered. All you need to know is that they don't. Of all the unisex clothes that were produced, perhaps the only ones that survived were drawstring pants. If you leave it at that, guys, you're on safe ground only if you're looking for clothes in the men's section of the department store.
