Trends Come And Go, But Vinyl Recordings Seem To Remain In The Hearts Of Music Fans
There are trends, fads and flashes in the pan that draw a lot of attention from the beginning, but then fade quickly from memory after they are transported outdoors and seen in the unyielding clarity of pure sunlight, never to be heard from again, and often that’s probably just as well; however, this is not always true.
Few inventions have had as large an effect on the tastes, thoughts and even the politics of the nation than one particular innovation that was first introduced many years ago and is known to just about everyone in Western civilization. The objects that made all of this come true are vinyl records, which created an entirely reborn market for music that could be enjoyed in your home, and whose sound quality became increasingly better as the years rolled on and record making techniques became more sophisticated. When the 78 RPM recording came to the market, it offered the music fan good quality recordings of favorite tunes, opera, classics and other varieties of sound recording, in a fairly cheap, durable format that was widely available in stores and capable of being played many times without wearing out.
It is hard to overestimate the effect that LPs made on the world’s music fans when they were introduced because recording artists then received a much larger canvas on which to express their creative musical ideas and audiences could get a better impression of the musician or singer’s creative output. Music of all varieties was soon produced on vinyl LPs as well as 45 RPM singles, and music fans could collect and listen to recordings of their favorite operas, symphonies, or they could go to a local record outlet and pick up a copy of some Beatles vinyl if the mood struck.
But as technology moved on, it was inevitable that the recording industry would discover a new technology purported to be an improvement over vinyl recording, and as compact discs quickly pushed vinyl off the shelves of record shops it seemed that LPs, 45 RPM records and 78 RPM records would become relics that were fit for nothing more than the recycle bin at a plastics manufacturing firm. But then a funny thing happened when a surge of enthusiasm for vintage vinyl recordings developed a grassroots following, and pretty soon it was evident that a goodly number of people still appreciated the warmth and excellent sound reproduction qualities of vinyl recordings.
While you may suspect that the only ones interested in vinyl are old Elvis fans and appreciators of classical music, the new wave of vinyl fans turns out to be young pop music enthusiasts, and how about that?
